Health care, from this standpoint, is very different from the disease care and symptom management that is commonly thought of as health care. Raw foods and juicing supplies the body with the fuel it needs to restore, build, and maintain true health.

The success stories using this approach to health care are many, but not widely publicized when compared to the number of drug ads we see everyday. The primary reason for this is succinctly captured in a quote from Dr. Simon Louis Katsoff, AMA, circa 1920's: "Doctors live by disease, so the public can expect the supply of disease to meet the demands of the medical profession." In other words, the medical profession is not motivated to restore and help maintain health, since their livelihood derives solely from illness. Therefore, if we want meaningful health care reform, we must act on our own behalf.

Raw food advocates everywhere, whether they espouse a raw vegan diet, or a primal raw diet that includes meat, know that health has a direct corollary to nutrition, and that the best source of this nutrition is organic raw foods and the juices made from them.

Green juices, carrot juice, and fresh sprouts are the backbone of most all raw food diet blueprints. The combination of raw wheatgrass, carrot, and apple juice is an unbeatable elixir for detoxing, for weight loss and energy, and for healing. In addition to a broad range of vitamins and minerals, it provides chlorophyll, oxygen, and the enzymes needed to make all those nutrients bio-available. An 8 oz. glass of fresh raw carrot juice contains more usable calcium than an 8 oz. glass of milk, particularly when the milk is ultra-pasteurized and homogenized, (in which case, it's only good for clogging arteries and congesting the liver and gut.)

Seed sprouts are another excellent source of raw food nutrition. A sprouted seed has 300 to 600 times the nutritional value as the same seed not sprouted, depending on the variety. Sprouts make a valuable wintertime source of nutrition when the availability of fresh organic produce is diminished.

Raw foods and raw juices are nature's own drugless blood pressure regulators, tooth decay preventers, and hair and nail growers, to name just a few healing functions. A raw food and raw juice diet provides a safe and effective way of naturally achieving better health and maintaining that level of health. So get out and juicer and the raw fruit and veggies and bottoms up.
